Silver Spring Zendo/One Heart Sangha Sesshin (Retreat)
September 4-8, 2019
Wellspring Conference Center-- Germantown, MD
Along this road~~ goes no one ~~this autumn evening~ Basho
We are the no-person person, and at the same time, we are doing what needs to be done, completely, fully, absolutely, over and over. We sit together to be completely present, no separation between “I” and the present moment.
Teachers: Sensei Robert Jin Gen Ertman, and other White Plum Asanga teachers
Join us for this time of sitting in appreciation of the fullness of our lives just as they are now. Our time together will consist of blocks of zazen (sitting meditation) and kinhin (walking meditation), dharma talks, and optional interviews, as well as rest practice and meals together. Throughout the sesshin we will practice the supportive silence of attentiveness. On Saturday afternoon, September 7, we will hold an Installation ceremony for a new teacher, Martine Palmiter, dharma holder of Rose Mary Dougherty.
Check-in begins at 4:30 PM on Wednesday, September 4. The full sesshin starts at 7:30 PM on Wednesday and concludes after lunch (noon Sunday). Cost includes room in a lodge with a kitchen and living room, and fresh cooked healthy meals, teas and coffee, including vegetarian fare. We are in a beautiful wooded setting, perfect for walks. We have mats and cushions, but please bring your own if you are able. An email with more detailed instructions will go out the week of August 25 to those who are registered.
While you are encouraged to be present for the entire 4-day sesshin, other options are available: Fee is on a sliding scale. For the full sesshin (4 nights) $450-475; three nights $350-375; two nights, $250-275; one night, $130; and the Saturday all-day sitting with lunch (9:30 AM - 5:15 PM), $50-60.
Other schedules can be requested—please email Registrar. Discounts and scholarships are available—please ask the Register—we want everyone to be able to experience sesshin. Or please consider paying a little more to help fund the discounts.
Please register by August 25, so we can plan for your arrival: there are 19 private rooms. If there are more of us, then rooms can be shared (same fee as a private room) or camping also available. Normally, we are able to give everyone a private room, but those who register late may have to share a room. Please wear comfortable clothing, avoid strong perfumes or scents. We do outdoor kinhin so bring appropriate footwear. There is a kitchen in each of the lodging houses available.
To register, please email the Registrar, Martine Palmiter at firstname.lastname@example.org and give her your name, email, emergency contact name with number , and dates and times you are arriving and departin, any food allegies or other special needs. Then, send your nonrefundable $100 deposit or full payment by August 24 to: 1) PayPal on the website silverspringzendo.org—or 2) mail a check payable to Silver Spring Zendo to: Stephen Bellotti, c/o Silver Spring Zendo, 4305 Dresden Street, Kensington, MD 20895-4102.
